Managed Router: Initial Setup and Configuration Overview
If your service includes a managed customer-premises router (CPE), our provisioning team configures the device prior to delivery. This article explains what is pre-configured and how to request changes after installation.
What Is Pre-Configured
- WAN interface with your assigned IP address(es), subnet mask, and default gateway
- LAN interface with a default subnet (typically a /24) — note your internal IP scheme can be changed by request
- Basic firewall policy permitting outbound traffic and blocking unsolicited inbound connections
- SNMP and monitoring credentials for NOC visibility into device health
- BGP or static routing as specified in your service order (for dedicated access circuits)
Accessing the Device
Managed routers are configured with out-of-band management access for our NOC. Direct customer access to the management plane (SSH, console) is available upon request for accounts with a network administrator on file. Submit a request through the portal under Support > Equipment Access Request.
Requesting Configuration Changes
All changes to managed CPE (routing changes, firewall rule updates, interface additions) must be submitted as a change request through the portal under Support > Change Request. Changes are implemented during a scheduled maintenance window unless marked as urgent.
For emergency configuration changes during an active incident, contact the 24/7 NOC directly. Emergency changes outside of standard windows may be subject to a professional services fee per your contract.
